General Foot Care & Foot Health Checks

Why choose us?

At The Vale Clinic, our podiatrists can help improve the appearance of the skin, by gently pairing away the hard skin and corns.  The build-up of painful hard skin and corns on your feet, can be caused by pressure and rubbing of bony prominences in the shoe.  The skin may crack, especially around the heels where it at times becomes dry and inelastic.

We treat problematic nails everyday in our clinic, nails such as painful Ingrown toenails, blackened toenails, fungal nails (you can read more about fungal nails here. ) deformed and thickened toenails.

To ensure that your feet are in good health, an annual foot health check with a podiatrist is recommended. A number of foot problems can go unnoticed by the untrained eye, until it becomes a problem.

We assess the circulation and sensation in your feet, and check for any abnormalities in the skin and nails, and provide you with personalised self-care advice that will enable you to manage your feet at home.

Treatments

Wound Care

Foot sores also known as wounds or ulcers, are seen in many chronic conditions such as diabetes. Diabetes is known to be the one of the main causes for foot ulcers.

Ulcers are simply a break in the skin which can appear as a small superficial wound or very deep – they vary in size, depth and location.

Ulcers can come about as a result of nerve damage in the feet – known as peripheral neuropathy. This is where the sensation in the feet is altered, and the perception of cold, heat or pain is diminished.

Poor circulation in people with Diabetes, through hardening of the arteries, reduces the blood flow to the legs and feet, and can undermine the body’s healing process of fighting off infection.

Ulcers can fester if not treated in a timely manner. If you discover an ulcer seek immediate medical assistance as this would require a specialist’s input to help progress the ulcer to healing.

Podiatrists at The Vale Clinic specialise in wound care,  and can assess and treat your wound or ulcer effectively.

Therapeutic Warm Wax Treatment

Paraffin wax heat therapy is known to increase blood flow, sweat and sebum production thus allowing beneficial nutrients to be drawn to the skins cells that rejuvenate the skin.

The wax also helps to moisturise and soften the skin while providing a therapeutic and healing effect for sore and aching joints. This with its effect of muscle relaxation can also make it particularly beneficial for those suffering from arthritis and rheumatic pain, amongst others benefits.

A treatment with paraffin warm wax at The Vale Clinic, always leaves you with an incredible luxurious feeling on the feet.

Assessments

The Diabetic Foot

We specialise in diabetic foot assessments and treatment, and can give you relevant and personalised advice on how to look after your feet.

Diabetes may affect the feet in two main ways, it can cause poor circulation and can damage the nerves in the feet.

If you have diabetes, you are encouraged to have your feet checked every year. This is to ensure, any changes to your foot health is picked up early.

During your initial consultation at The Vale Clinic, your Podiatrist will complete a foot health assessment, to check your circulation and the sensation in the feet.

Footwear Assessments

Poorly fitting footwear is one of the most common causes of foot problems. Footwear assessment is a service offered at The Vale Clinic. We can advise you on suitable, supportive footwear and recommend appropriate footwear styles suited to the shape of your feet and desired activity.
